Control cabinet fan selection: dimensions, airflow and filters

Learn how cabinet space, power and environment, together with airflow, static pressure, air paths and filters, affect cooling fan selection.

Collect cabinet and heat-source information

Cabinet size alone is insufficient. Collect equipment and heat data, ambient and allowable internal temperatures, and available fan and vent positions. For existing overheating, share operating conditions and photos to discuss improvements.

Assess airflow and static pressure together

Airflow is the volume of air moved per unit time; static pressure indicates the ability to overcome resistance. Filters, guards and ducts add resistance, so installed airflow may be lower than the free-air rating.

Compare fan performance curves with system resistance rather than simply choosing the highest rated airflow. Higher-resistance installations require a suitable fan type and operating point.

Check inlet and exhaust paths

Route air past the main heat sources before it exits. Avoid closely spaced inlets and outlets that short-circuit airflow. Consider cable ducts, parts and mounting plates. Confirm cutouts and positions against the equipment design.

Combining filters and protective accessories

Assess filtration in dusty environments and allow space for cleaning and replacement. Clogged media increases resistance; regular inspection helps maintain ventilation. Check fan dimensions, mounting holes, frame thickness and assembly space.

For water, dust or other protection ratings, check the complete assembly. Adding a filter alone does not establish a particular enclosure protection rating.

Information to help our team assess your needs

Prepare the following information and contact TAIJU through the inquiry form or LINE.

  • Cabinet dimensions, available cutouts and mounting-hole spacing.
  • Existing fan model, voltage, frequency and phase.
  • Internal equipment, heat data and operating environment.
  • Filtration, protection, noise and continuous-operation requirements.
  • Site photos and expected purchase quantity.

Selection FAQs

Is airflow alone enough for cabinet fan selection?

No. Filters, guards and ducts increase resistance, so actual airflow may be lower than the free-air rating. Assess airflow, static pressure, fan performance curves and system resistance together.

Does adding a filter provide a specific protection rating?

Not automatically. If water, dust or other protection ratings are required, check the specifications for the complete assembly and installation.

What information is needed for cabinet cooling selection?

Provide cabinet and cutout dimensions, fan power, existing model, internal heat information, environment, filter and noise requirements, site photos and expected quantity.
