How to choose AC, DC or EC fans: power first, then cooling needs
Compare AC, DC and electronically commutated EC fans, including voltage, control signals and information to prepare before requesting a quote.
Check the equipment power supply first
Read the equipment and original fan nameplates first. Check AC or DC, rated voltage and mounting dimensions. For AC, also check frequency and single or three phase; for DC, check polarity. Matching appearance and dimensions do not mean electrical interchangeability.
Differences between AC, DC and EC
AC fans are common in equipment with AC power; DC fans suit electronic and control systems with DC power. EC means electronically commutated. Common designs integrate AC input with brushless motor control and can be considered for efficiency and speed-control needs.
Check each model for supported voltages, wide-range input and speed control. The EC label does not mean every model accepts the same supply or delivers a fixed energy saving.
Distinguish control and monitoring signals
PWM commonly controls speed; FG usually reports speed; RD usually detects or signals a stopped fan. FG is feedback, not a speed-control input. Confirm signal definitions, wiring and options for the model.
Check operating conditions as well as dimensions
Measure length, width, thickness and mounting-hole spacing. Record the application, operating hours, ambient temperature, dust and noise requirements. Assess cooling needs after confirming power and installation conditions.
- Replacement: provide the original model, a nameplate photo and mounting dimensions.
- New equipment: provide the supply, available space, application and expected quantity.
- Special environments: describe oil, acids, alkalis, humidity or heat and ask about suitable models.
Prepare a specification checklist before requesting a quote
Providing the application, power, dimensions, quantity and control needs together reduces follow-up questions. TAIJU assists according to model and application; final specifications and supply terms are subject to mutual confirmation.
Selection FAQs
Can AC, DC and EC fans be directly interchanged?
Appearance and dimensions alone do not establish interchangeability. Check AC or DC, rated voltage, AC frequency and phase, DC polarity, mounting dimensions and control interfaces against the model data.
Can an FG signal control fan speed?
FG is usually speed feedback, not a speed-control input. PWM commonly controls speed, while RD usually detects or signals a stopped fan. Confirm functions and wiring for the model being purchased.
Do EC fans always save a fixed percentage of power?
A fixed saving cannot be inferred from the EC label alone. Input power, efficiency and speed control vary by model and operating conditions. Compare the selected product data.

Electrical, performance and installation conditions depend on the chosen model and agreed specifications.
